Registered partnerships

What is a registered partnership?

It is a couple that lives together stably, like a marriage, but without marrying. It can be of any gender.

In Andalusia it is registered in the Registered Partnership Registry. It is useful, for example, for the family card or family reunification.

Where is it registered?

At the Territorial Delegation of the Junta de Andalucía or at the Town Hall of the town where one of the two lives.

What do you need?

Each of the two:

ID document (DNI, NIE or passport).
Civil status document (single, divorced…).
Being **of legal age** or an emancipated minor.
Not being **legally incapacitated**.
**Not being married** or the partner of another person.
**Not being close family members**.
Living in a town or city in **Andalusia** (registered on the municipal roll).
Declaring that you want to be a registered partnership.

Do we both have to go?

Yes. You both have to go in person (or do it before a notary). It cannot be done online.

Is it the same as marriage?

Partly. In Andalusia, a registered partnership has the same rights as a marriage in:

Procedures with the Junta de Andalucía.
Residences for the elderly.
Drug addiction programs.
Health information.
Public housing.
Junta taxes.
Public service.

At work (leave, benefits…), it depends on your company’s collective agreement.

You can agree on how to share your assets and money, when registering or afterwards.

What if the partnership ends?

You must apply for deregistration at the same place where you registered. This happens in these cases:

**Death** of one of the two.
**Marriage** of the couple or of one of them.
**Separation** by mutual agreement or end of cohabitation.
If you do not know where the other person lives, it can also be requested.
If only one requests it, the other is notified.
If you both move outside Andalusia, there is also deregistration.

What if we change address or details?

Report it at the same registry where you registered, with:

**Change of details:** the new document (DNI, NIE, passport…).
**Change of address:** municipal registration certificate less than 3 months old.
